New York, NY—In an effort to deter counterfeiting and sales of fake medication through online pharmacies, Pfizer is now selling its popular erectile dysfunction drug sildenafil (Viagra) directly through its Web site (www.viagra.com). This is the first time a pharmaceutical manufacturer has sold a prescription drug directly to patients online instead of through a wholesaler or pharmacy. Customers must have a valid prescription from a physician, and insurance coverage is accepted. Discounts are also being offered. Orders are being handled through CVS/pharmacy, with home delivery provided. Pfizer said it will consider expanding online sales to some of its other medications in the future.
